Lady Gaga Less Than Happy About Postponed Paris Shows

Posted by Chase Jackson On December - 20 - 2010

Fans of Lady Gaga in Paris once again were fresh out of luck.  The elaborate concert show of the U.S. pop star’s was postponed again, this time because of the weather.

On Twitter the singer posted that the French government had detained over two dozen trucks that were carrying equipment and sets for Gaga’s “Monster Ball Tour” for over 26 hours.

Gaga continued, I am devastated and furious.  It’s unfair to me and my fans.  She added that two crew members had been arrested because they continued to drive towards Paris in extreme weather conditions.

Large trucks have been banned by French authorities from driving through Il-de-France, which includes Paris, due to the icy and snowy weather that is affecting Europe.

Bercy Stadium officials in Paris said the Sunday night concert had to be postponed due to the trucks not being able to reach the venue on time.

Stadium officials and Lady Gaga vowed that the show on Monday would proceed as planned.  The canceled Sunday gig is being replaced with a Tuesday concert.

The singer tweeted, I promise I will give you the best night of your life.  Lady Gaga is the stage name for the singer’s real name, Stefani Germanotta.

The concerts on Sunday and Monday were dates that had been rescheduled to make up two shows in October that were postponed due to countrywide protests and strikes against the plan by the government to raise their retirement age.

Posted by Chase Jackson On September - 21 - 2010

Fresh from her sweep-off success at the recently concluded MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles more than a week ago and her 15-minute speech at a rally in Portland, ME last week in support of the revocation of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”  law for homosexual members of the military, Lady Gaga resumes her road work and even adds more dates to the itinerary, extending the tour till May 2011.

The new addition to the slate includes stops in 20 North American cities plus two city stops in Mexico to wrap things up.  The new dates will have the eclectic dance pop diva swing from coast to coast during March and April next year.

Meanwhile, the award winning artist is gearing up for a string of shows in Europe spanning for two and a half months.  The European leg of her “Monster Ball” tour will kick off with a two-nighter in Helsinki, Finland on October 13 and 14.  The leg also includes three-nighters in Dublin and Belfast, UK and another set of two-nighters in Zurich, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy and London on December 16 and 17 which will mark the leg’s endpoint.  Gaga will resume performing in her home turf in New York on February 11, 2011 at the Madison Square Garden Arena.

Gaga is also expected to perform a track or two from her forthcoming release which is slated to come out early next year.  She announced the title of the new release, “Born this Way”, during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year honors at the MTV VMAs.  “Born this Way” will be Lady Gaga’s third record and her follow-up to “The Fame Monster”.

Scissor Sisters Score Opening Slot on Upcoming Lady Gaga Tour

Posted by Chase Jackson On September - 3 - 2010

Glam rock group Scissor Sisters will be teaming up with Lady Gaga for the award winning singer’s forthcoming “Monster Ball Tour” set to kick off on February 19 in Atlantic City.  This will be the third time for the tour to hit the North American market and will be the first time for the pop-disco quintet to open for Gaga.

Scissor Sisters is currently on the heels of the success of their camp tour dubbed as “Fairy Tale Tour” which kicked off to positive reviews in Atlanta last August.

The New York based group has also released their third studio effort entitled “Night Work”, which was described by music website Sputnikmusic.com as “straightforward as possible with homosexuality in all its forms”.

The group’s music has always been popular in the LGBT community because of its suggestive lyrics which supports homosexuality.  The singles were greatly influenced by the band’s main composers who are all gays – Jake Shears and Babydaddy who both pioneered the group and guitarist Del Marquis.

Posted by Janice Bryant On May - 12 - 2010

Lady Gaga has sold out a majority of her 2010 “Monster Ball Tour” shows months in advance. The singer is now focusing on next year.

So far the North American 2011 Monster Ball Tour contains 10 dates scheduled over the course of two months. The trek will kick off in Atlantic City, NJ on February 19. The 2011 outing will follow several months of European dates which follow the upcoming North American summer tour. Lady Gaga’s 2010 summer tour will kick off in Montreal on June 28 and will wrap up on September 19 in Raleigh, NC.

On May 14, tickets will be going on sale for Lady Gaga’s 2011 shows. Semi Precious Weapons, glam rockers from New York who backed Lady Gaga’s 2010 dates, are once again scheduled to be the openers on her 2011 trek.

Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour is in support of “The Fame Monster,” her second studio album which was released last fall. The set peaked on Billboard’s 200 chart in the No. 5 spot and reached the No. 1 spot on charts in the UK, Switzerland, Poland, Ireland,Germany and Finland and spawned No. 1 hit singles “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.”

In December, Gaga’s Monster Ball tour was launched shortly after the planned co-headlining trek with Kayne West got canceled abruptly.

It’s funny, Lady Gaga said. After the tour with Kayne was canceled, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get a show put together for my fans in time. I really didn’t want them to be disappointed by me not touring during Christmas. I had this new album coming out. The thing that is exciting about the show was being able to put something together that, truthfully, I wouldn’t have done had there been more time.

Lady Gaga, Soundgarden Sign on for Lollapalooza Line-Up

Posted by Janice Bryant On April - 6 - 2010

It’s official. Lady Gaga, as was reported in February initially, will be making her headlining debut this summer at Lollapalooza.

Green Day, along with a reunited Soundgarden, will be joining the pop singer as headliners for the 2010 edition of the long running festival. It will take place at Grant Park in Chicago August 6-8.

Lady Gaga had one previous appearance at the festival in 2007 on one of the smaller side stages.

Other acts that the organizers have confirmed for the outdoor festival of three days include Grizzly Bear, Erykah Badu, The New Pornographers, Spoon, The Black Keys, Hot Chip, MGMT, Phoenix, The Strokes and Arcade Fire. Lollapalooza’s website contains a complete listing of performers.

The festival’s headlining lineup for 2010 skews toward edgier and younger than last year’s top performers. They included veteran acts Lou Reed, Jane’s Addiction, Tool and Depeche Mode. It will be the second appearance at Lollapalooza for Green Day. The first appearance for the band was in 1994. At that time, the festival was a traveling show featuring dates across the country. Soundgarden, reuniting after 12 years, appeared at Lollapalooza previous in 1992 and 1996.

Jane’s Addiction, which is led by Perry Farrell co-founder of Lollapalooza, isn’t appearing at the event this year. However Ferrell will be performing a set as DJ at the electronica stage named after him at the festival. Other electronic acts for 2010 include Felix Da Housecat, Digitalism, Empire of the Sun and 2ManyDJs.

Festival tickets are on sale currently. Three day general admission passes cost $215. VIP passes cost $850. The event’s website also has travel packages available.

Lady Gaga Takes Monster Ball Tour into Summer

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 15 - 2010

After Lady Gaga finishes her outings in Europe, Asia and Australia, she will be setting out this summer for the second leg of North America of the pop superstar’s “Monster Ball Tour.”

Lady Gaga will be bringing her pop-electro opera to North America once again starting with a Montreal performance on June 28. The outing will be hitting arenas across North America and wrap up in Raleigh, NC on September 19. So far over 30 dates are confirmed. More shows are expected to be added.

Starting March 19, tickets will be going on sale for most of the shows via Ticketmaster. Advance tickets will be accessible to Virgin Mobile customers beginning on March 16.

In an interview that Lady Gaga did with Ryan Seacrest last month she said, the tour is called Monster Ball. However it more a musical than it is a concert. The theme is about New York. It tells a story. The story is about my friends and I in New York. We are on our way to attend the Monster Ball, but we get lost.

“Monster Ball” is in support of “The Fame Monster,” Lady Gaga’s second album that was released last fall. The new set peaked in the no. 5 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. In the UK, Switzerland, Poland, Ireland, Germany and Finland it reached No. 1 on the album charts.

Earlier this month, Lady Gage released a video for “Telephone,” her latest single. The jail themed video, which features Beyonce, can be viewed on Lady Gaga’s website.

Lady Gaga Hits by a Slew of Cancellations

Posted by Janice Bryant On January - 14 - 2010

Several performances have been postponed by Lady Gaga lately because of illness including her show in Indiana on January 14, although the next day the singer did feel well enough to appear on “Oprah.”

In addition to canceling last week’s West Lafayette, IN show on Purdue University’s campus, Lady Gaga also had to cancel shows that were scheduled for Atlantic City NY on January 16; Wallingford, CT on January 17; and Uncasville CT on January 18. She will start a run of four nights on January 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

According to the University’s website the concert at Purdue was underway already when Lady Gaga, who hadn’t been feeling well, was advised by the medical staff at the theater that she should postpone her performance.

Although the opening acts Jason Derulo and Semi Precious Weapons were able to perform, the concert of Lady Gaga’s had been rescheduled and will take place on January 26. Her other shows that were canceled haven’t been rescheduled yet. Ticket holders have been advised that they should keep their tickets and wait for upcoming announcements.

Lady Gaga’s website reported that the singer was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion which had caused the cancellations and said that she had been advised by her physician to take a couple days off and rest. Many fans were surprised when Lady Gaga appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on January 15 where she didn’t show any apparent signs of being ill. During the live show she performed a medley containing some of her hit songs.

In other news, Lady Gaga has pledged support for Haiti and offered all of her proceeds from the January 24 performance at Radio City Music Hall to go towards relief efforts in Haiti.

During her appearance on “Oprah” Lady Gaga said, Haiti is still suffering. During 9-11 I was in New York. I was thinking and have felt always that disaster wasn’t close to what has happened in Haiti. I remember feeling that no one really understood what had happened. I worry that young people don’t really know what’s going on over there.

Lady Gaga Detroit & Chicago Venues Moved Due to Demand

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 30 - 2009

Lady Gaga will be trading up sizes for some of her upcoming dates of her “Monster Ball Tour.” A few dates are being moved to larger seating capacity venues.

Lady Gaga’s Detroit dates on January 12 and 13 that were originally scheduled to take place at the Fox Theatre, a venue of 5,000 seats, has been moved to Joe Louis Arena. The new venue has a 20,000 seating capacity and is home of the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL. The Chicago dates of January 8-10 had been originally scheduled to be held at Chicago Theatre. Those shows have been moved to Rosemont Theatre. Live Nation, the promoter, has stated that ticket holders of the affected shows need to go back to where they purchased their tickets and buy new tickets in order to secure their seats for the new venues.

The Live Nation website contains more information regarding the Chicago show. General information concerning the changes are also available on the help page at Ticketmaster.

The reason for the move given by Live Nation was the production size. However the promoter didn’t make any further elaborations.

Previously Lady Gaga moved her show on January 3, which had been originally scheduled to take place in Orlando, FL at Hard Rock Live, over to University of Central Florida Arena, a venue with triple the seating capacity.

Last summer the flamboyant singer released her major label album debut “The Fame.” The set peaked in the No. 4 spot on Bilboard’s 200 chart and spawned four hit singles: “LoveGame,” “Paparazzi,” “Poker Face,” and “Just Dance.”

Late last month, an expanded version was re-named “The Fame Monster.” Eight new songs were added.
