Gaga egged over Sidney performance in wheelchair

Posted by Chase Jackson On July - 13 - 2011

Lady Gaga is known to perform dramatic, theatrical and sometimes, just plain crazy antics onstage – and gets away with it. For the most part, that holds true, but Wednesday night was one of the few exceptions as she tried to pull off a stunt for which she was heavily criticized – not through words but through poultry – for being insensitive on the plights of the disabled.

As reported by British website Metro Online, the ‘Edge of the Glory’ singer went out onstage in the midst of her show in Sydney on Wednesday on a wheelchair. This sent people on the roof for what they thought as a tactless and insensitive gimmick by the singer. As a result, pissed attendees of the show egged her but to no avail, as she successfully dodged the egg attack thanks to her wall of posse, talk about “eggs of glory”.

Does she have a thing for wheelchairs or cripples? No one really knows, but this isn’t the first time Gaga tried to perform such a stunt. Two years ago at the MTV VMAs, she tried to re-create her ‘Paparazzi’ music video onstage with a dance routine a-la Glee’s ‘Proud Mary/Artie’ tribute (you can search for that Glee episode on YouTube, a season one episode where the kids sang ‘Proud Mary’ while rolling the school halls and auditorium on wheelchairs). And speaking of “eggs of glory”, Gaga appeared in this year’s recently concluded Grammy Awards from a hatched egg, as she premiered her much-anticipated single at the time, ‘Born this Way’. It would’ve been cooler though if she went all the way and appeared as a chick or anything with wings, a beak and feathers, anyway, she’s almost always clad in either or something that is similarly outrageous.

Lady Gaga lands internship with hat designer Philip Treacy

Looks like Lady Gaga has found a new haven where she could put all that talent and passion for high fashion – or should we say, quirky and head-turning head dresses – to good use. We just learned that the queen monster has landed a new job with hat designer to the stars and British royalty Philip Treacy as his new (and to date, probably the most famous) apprentice.

We know that this is a partnership made in couture heaven. Treacy’s works include Sarah Jessica Parker’s conspicuous feather head dress she donned for the premiere of ‘Sex and the City’ in London three years ago, and of course, who could forget Princess Beatrice’s scene stealing hat she had for the royal wedding of Will and Kate, that could’ve been the highest fashion talking point of the occasion if Kate hadn’t worn that stunning Alexander McQueen wedding gown.

Speaking to Us Weekly, the British hat designer is looking forward to training the ‘Born this Way’ singer, “She plans to [do an internship with me]. She’s already visited me,” Treacy said. And the designer has already had a taste of what to expect once Gaga’s internship begins. “This is what happened: One Monday morning, four burly bodyguards arrived — Lady Gaga’s security team — to check out the security of the building. I looked at them as if to say, ‘What?! Who is going to take a pot shot at Lady Gaga?’ Anyway, she is young, talented and peculiar — which I like.” Needless to say, Treacy’s atelier will be flocked by a hoard of watchful eyes with cameras while his own pair of watchful eyes teaches the chart topping diva a thing or two on how to make hats that could have the whole world talking, you could sell it on eBay for more than a hundred grand and donate it to charity (Princess Beatrice’s infamous head dress was auctioned off on eBay and was sold for £81,101 or US$131,650. The proceeds went to UNICEF and Children in Crisis charities.).

Gaga promises to return to Singapore

Posted by Chase Jackson On July - 8 - 2011

Lady Gaga’s back in Singapore, not as part of a world tour though (as she doesn’t have one for her current release yet) but for the Singtel AMped showcase, where her little monsters and normal spectators can get to see the queen monster in the flesh, along with an hour-long performance plus a brief conference with the members of the Singaporean press.

“I’m so happy to back in Singapore… This is one of my favorite countries in the whole world. Thank you for having me back,” said the ‘Edge of Glory’ singer, who donned an aqua wig, sunglasses (which could pass off as Mickey Mouse’s ears), white gloves, sky-rocketing shoes and toned down the ensemble with a khaki outfit.

The press people were obviously eager to ask her all sorts of queries but host Soo Kui Jien managed to keep the conference centered on Gaga’s new album, ‘Born this Way’, and its newest single ‘Edge of Glory’.

“The song ["Edge of Glory"] not only talks about the other side of life, but also about celebrating how far you’ve come… [It is like] taking acknowledgement for myself as a 25 year old who’s been working so hard from the bottom up my whole life, what is it feel like to be in the edge of your glory,” explained the singer.

The eight-minute conference immediately came to a close. Later that day, she treated her little monsters to an hour-long performance of her current hits springing from her new release, such as ‘Judas’, ‘Edge of Glory’, ‘Hair’, and of course, the title track of her third and current record, ‘Born this Way’. She completed the set with her previous hits – ‘Alejandro’, ‘Bad Romance’, ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Telephone’ – singles that made her more than just a one-hit or one-album wonder, but a bonafide pop culture icon.

With the warm and positive reception she experienced on her brief Singaporean stint, it will be a mistake for Gaga not to include the country into her next world tour, whenever that may be. She already took it a step forward and promised her little monsters that she will return with a “full tour next year”.

She better come through as her Singaporean fans have already marked their calendars and are gearing up for what shapes to be as a Gaga pandemonium in Lion City in 2012.
