“People who say they need drugs to be creative are full of s**t. I’m not some chick on the road getting high and f***ed up every night.”
Those were the words of the current queen of electro-pop, Lady Gaga, referring to her history of drug use and how it helped her shape her music that millions of people all over the world love to dance and listen to today.
In an interview with Q Magazine, Gaga recalled how she would dig inspiration for her music – or performance art as she would put it – “in dark places”. According to the artist, she wasn’t a recreational user, the drug use and the creative process for her performance pieces go together and were inseparable. “Using drugs, I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired…But I never got so far into it that I overdosed or anything”, Gaga explains.
Today, she’s sober and clean, or maybe that’s just for now, “once you open those doors they’re open forever”, a clear indication that the “Bad Romance” singer does not rule out the possibility of dipping onto the habit again in the future, but only on occasion. “I won’t lie, it’s occasional. And when I say occasional, I mean maybe a couple of times a year”, the singer adds.
